BLACK IRON OXIDE

This common colourant will give a variety of colours depending on the glaze base used.  In most cases its effects are about the same as red iron oxide.  Generally red iron oxide can be substituted for it, though many potters prefer black iron oxide for producing celadon glazes in reduction firing.
