Description
This compound is most commonly used in high-fire glazes to produce the buttery surface quality favoured by many potters for utility ware. At high temperatures it will funciton as a slow flux and is then valuable for is “slowing” effect on fluid glazes such as the crystalline type, which cannot employ alumina for this purpose. Dolomite can be substituted for magnesium carbonate if the whiting content is cut by half.
